Silver Jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated at Lucknow

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,  and Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Central Command, laid wreaths at the Smritika War Memorial to pay tribute to fallen heroes of the Armed Forces.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is commemorated every year on 26th July, to celebrate India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil war. On this day, 25 years ago, the Indian Army reclaimed the high posts occupied by the enemy in the Dras Sector of Ladakh. The trigger for the war was the occupation of winter vacated posts along the Line of Control by infiltrators. The conflict lasted over 60 days and culminated on 26 July 1999 after Indian forces successfully recaptured all posts which had been occupied by the intruders.

The Silver Jubilee Celebrations at Lucknow on 26 Jul 2024, commenced with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at Smritika War Memorial to honour the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War. A large number of serving and retired soldiers gathered to pay homage to their fallen comrades who upheld the finest traditions of the Armed Forces.

A felicitation ceremony was also organised at Surya Auditorium where a total of 12 war veterans, Veer Naris, next of kin of bravehearts and serving Army personnel were honoured by the Honourable Chief Minister in recognition of the sacrifices made by them. The Chief Minister in his address, expressed gratitude on behalf of citizens of the country for the constant vigil on the borders by the Armed Forces and their selfless service to the Nation.
